Perfect for plugging gaps at the front of borders! These quick and easy hardy annuals make an excellent standby, flowering just 4 weeks from sowing. Commonly called Virginia Stock, this colourful mix is a lovely blend of Malcolmia maritima seeds in lilac, pink and white shades. This hardy annual boasts a fabulous, rich perfume and makes a great planting partner for Night Scented stocks (Matthiola incana). These bushy little plants offer excellent value in the garden, flowering over a long period and filling the air with fragrance. For the longest lasting display, sow Virginia Stock in succession, every few weeks. Height: 30cm (12"). Spread: 20cm (8").
Direct sow Virginia Stock seeds outdoors where they are to grow from March to May. Choose a position in full sun on any well drained soil which has been raked to a fine tilth. Sow seeds thinly, at a depth of 6mm (¼in) in drills spaced 15cm (6”) apart and cover the seed with its own depth of soil to exclude light. Water the ground regularly, especially during dry periods. Germination usually takes 14 - 21 days. When Virginia Stock seedlings are large enough to handle, thin them out to 15cm (6”) apart.
